My life is dedicated to helping others become the best version of themselves. For me, the best way to do that is to develop my leadership and communication skills and help others do the same thing. I can only teach what I know, and I only know what I live.
Let me tell you a story.
It's a hot June day over 15 years ago, and I receive THE phone call I've been hoping for ... the job offer to run a soccer program with 500 players and over 1,000 parents. Whoa! I'm scared out of my mind. Even though I was part of three NCAA national championships at Messiah University,
I was still unsure if I had the leadership and communication skills to excel.
Have you ever felt that way? Afraid of failure? Thinking there might be a gap in skills between where you are and where you want to be? The hot term for it now is Impostor Syndrome, and it’s affecting CEOs as much as first-time managers.
Now you may be familiar with this part of the story.
I take the job, and everything is great! I love it! I develop my leadership and communication skills tremendously but. .... there's always a “but,” right?
A few years in, I started to plateau. I still saw value in what I was doing, but I felt like I had hit a ceiling in my growth. This can happen at any level of life. Maybe that’s you right now.
What I’ve learned is how important it is to continue challenging myself and putting myself on a path of personal growth.
I meet the right person at the right time, and the entire trajectory of my life changes.
"You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” — Charlie “Tremendous” Jones
I embody this quote and become “addicted” to personal growth, studying successful leaders and passing that knowledge on to others. I start reading all the classics, like Think and Grow Rich, 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and so on. But the lessons that impacted me the most were rooted in books like How to Win Friends and Influence People.
If I can influence people, I can help them.
By investing in leadership and communication skills, my income skyrockets by 5X as doors open for me across a variety of industries.
These newfound skills lead to incredible opportunities.
One day, I'm designing soft skills training for an award-winning PR/communications firm whose clients include Fortune 500 companies, the next I'm designing the Learning Philosophy for a 200-person remote health care company right before building out a training institute for leadership communication skills for a state agency of 2,500 people leading to a 20% boost in engagement. The majority of my success has come from my ability to connect, inspire, and lead people through effective communication. (Being a good person helps, too, of course.)
Confident communication equals freedom.
The skills to connect authentically and communicate confidently and clearly while raising belief in others are rare. Go one step further ... the ability to effectively coach someone on the areas they are uncomfortable and maintain a fantastic relationship is the unicorn of people skills.
If you’re in the pursuit of mastering these skills and leveling up your leadership, then I’d love to hear from you, too.
My vision is to equip as many leaders as I can with the communication skills to connect, inspire, and lead so that we can help others become the best version of themselves.
Helping people become the best version of themselves
